Position Paper on Linking HIV and SRHR

The Stop AIDS Alliance published the position paper ’Intensify linkages between HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights for maximum impact’ (2012).

HIV and SRHR

HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) have always been and should be viewed as integrated concepts. Yet, it is important that addressing HIV remains a priority. As part of its global advocacy work, the Stop AIDS Alliance, therefore, seeks to ensure that the global policy agenda on integration remains ’HIV sensitive’. This means, in part, that HIV remains addressed sufficiently and correctly.

Challenges remain for ensuring that people receive comprehensive, high-quality services, because policies are not being translated into practice. There is no single blueprint for linking. It is essential that linking be undertaken on the basis of evidence and be adapted to the context of application – for example, analysing needs in relation to capacity – using a case-by-case approach. However, all linking must meet certain specific minimum conditions.

Position paper

Given the above, the Stop AIDS Alliance published a position paper on linking HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights: ’Intensify linkages between HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights for maximum impact’ (2012). It describes the key criteria for successful linking and accordingly provides specific recommendations.
