Uganda: Integrated SRHR/HIV community service delivery in the Get Up Speak Out programme

July 29, 2017

Taking the opportunity of the Flexible Fund of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Get Up Speak Out (GUSO) consortium, the Uganda SRHR Alliance and Healthy Entrepreneurs will create an effective and efficient community service delivery model in Uganda. This will offer young people the SRHR and HIV information and services they desire and empower young people in generating an income.

With this new intervention, that will run for two years, we will invest in creating jobs, in other words recruiting healthy entrepreneurs. We will build the capacity of healthy entrepreneurs, peer providers and peer educators with emphasis on comprehensive sexuality education and quality referral systems. We will encourage service providers to use a variety of community based delivery mechanisms, including outreach, peer provision and eHealth to ensure services and information meet the needs of all young people.

In doing so, we respond to identified bottlenecks that impede young people's access to integrated SRHR/HIV information and services. We furthermore provide alternative strategies to integrated information and services in the context of a hostile policy environment towards school-based comprehensive sexuality education.
